After Effects for Beginners: Getting Started // Reading Notes

  • MENU BAR
    • top left corner
    • used to: see current open project file name; open, save, import, and export your projects and files; preferences area; undo, redo, editable features; choose and edit effects and presets; create, edit, or arrange layers; animation; rulers, grids, and guides; enable or disable panels 
  • PREFERENCES
    • Edit>Preferences>Appearance
  • TOOLBAR
    • top left corner 
    • some tools hide their related tools
  • PANELS AND FRAMES
    • Every panel has its own name and function (info, audio, preview and effects, and presets)
    • in case two or more panels are connected they are sitting in a frame
    • you can pick a panel and move it to another panel to combine them to a frame 
  • File>New>New Project
  • Import Files
    • File>Import>File
    • Control+I
    • Double click the project window 
    • you can select single or multiple files and import them by clicking open
    • can do the same with folders
  • PROJECT WINDOW
    • gives information about the name, file type, size and more 
    • can change the name without changing the real file name
    • original files aren’t imported just linked
    • can create folders to organize files
    • can type in search bar to look for files
    • always right click to explore capabilities and features
  • COMPOSITION
    • Composition>new composition
    • you can drag and drop files from the project panel, use the timeline or to the area where the layers are sitting 
  • PRE COMP
    • Layers>pre comp
  • Edit>Preferences>Auto Save
  • File>Export
  • Composition>Add to render queue
